What is  Little Steps ?

Little Steps is InStep Dance Studios children’s program including Ballet/Tap and Kinder classes. This program is designed to nurture our youngest dancers and provide them with a unique, fun, educational and personal dance experience.

Mission Statement

InStep Dance Studios created the  Little Steps program to engage young children through dance, in learning and fun developing motor, cognitive, social and listening skills while learning class room etiquette. Through dance, song and imagination role play, our
Little Steps dancers will build rhythm and memory skills and learn to express themselves in a creative and fun way. InStep Dance Studios, Little Steps program introduces children to basic ballet and tap technique that will provide them with a strong foundation to advance through our program and instill a love and appreciation for dance.

Hello Parents!
My name is Brandy Calcote and I am the children’s director for InStep Dance Studios

Little Steps program. I have been a part of the InStep family since the fall of 2010 and I LOVE working with your children! There is nothing the teachers and I enjoy more than seeing your child grow and learn in a dance studio environment—watching a shy child open up in share time and begin to make friends, seeing a child’s face light up when he/she knows he/she did a good job, experiencing your child run up to a teacher to show a newly invented dance step—these moments are what bring us to the studio each day with a smile.
Our goal with this program is not only to educate, but to build a relationship with you and your child. We want the BEST possible experience and parental involvement is truly the key to success. This web page is here to provide you with all the information you need to know about your child’s class. I will also be sending e-mails monthly to provide you with key information regarding your child’s class.

Music Month!

FIVE SIX SEVEN EIGHT!!!!

We are kicking of February with lots of exciting new things to learn all about music! Music inspires us to move in all kinds of ways and the more we learn about how music is made, the better we can dance. We will learn about breaking music up into counts of 8 to help us remember our dance steps. We will also be learning the different ways that we can count while we dance from 4/4 time to waltz time and much more. By dancing with partners and in big groups, we’ll learn how to dance as a unified group and feel the music all together!

So TURN IT UP and let’s DANCE!

Bitsy's Dance Diary

Dear Diary,

This month in dance class we are learning about one of my favorite things...MUSIC! I always like to sing in class to the music while we dance. I'm learning that music is very special and important in dancing. I'm learning that I can count along with music and that helps me to dance better with my class mates. In class today we played a game and I got to skip around the circle while everyone clapped and counted. Everyone got a turn and somehow we ALL used 3 counts of 8 to get around the circle twice! I think teacher was right, music and counting are very special. Teacher says that we use the number eight when we count to music and when we dance we do our steps for eight counts. When we are all counting the same way we all dance together and it looks really great! I never knew how much fun counting could be!

Lala's Dance Diary

Dear Diary,

In my Kinder Class we are learning all about music and rythm. When we dance to music we can feel a beat or rythm in the song and when we count those beats it helps us dance together.
We are learning that there are two different kinds of counting in music. We can count in "Four Time" or in "Waltz Time". Most of the songs we dance to are in four time. That means we count eight beats and then we start over. When we dance our lullaby song we dance in waltz time. That means that we count 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2-3, I like counting waltz time because it feels light and floating.
The best part about learning counting is practicing with a dance buddy. We get to pick a partner and dance across the room. It's really neat because when I count with my partner it helps us do the steps at the EXACT same time. I feel like a grown up dancer when we dance that way.
We also dance as a big group all together! That's a little harder but we are practicing everyday really hard. We all hold hands in a circle and move to counts of eight. We walk left for eight, then right for eight, then in for eight, and out for eight. My class always starts to giggle when we walk in because we think it is fun.
I love learning all about music and getting better at dancing, I can't wait for my next class!
